Qualifications

I am an interaction/UI designer focused on application design (web and desktop). I am highly collaborative in nature and in practice, with the ability to work in both Agile and non-Agile (waterfall) development environments.

I am a natural leader who understands the importance of collaboration from all parts of the team; from users to business leaders to developers to QA folk. I am a critical thinker who understands that UI/Interaction needs to focus on user needs while hitting business requirements.

Employment History

Expeditors International

Present - 2005

Senior User Experience Specialist - Using a wide range of tools, collaborating with business stakeholders, business analysts and development teams to create data-rich, complex applications intended for a large, internal audience. Deliverables include wire-frames, prototypes (paper and medium fidelity), usability testing and analysis, UI specifications.

The Cobalt Group

2004

Flash Developer/Animator - Contract position. Created and animated Flash-based presentations for VP of Operations for the NADA 2005 conference. Worked with the training team in creating Cobalt specific online course content and training materials for Cobalt's proprietary software.

Freelance Flash Developer - Developed a touch screen kiosks for the Washington State Capitol Building in Olympia, WA.

Apex Learning

1998 - 2004

Various Positions - My experience with Apex was wide-reaching- from being the first Flash Animator to developing the UI and visual design for the original ApexLearning.com. As a founding member of Apex Learning, I developed and created media-rich high school and middle school course content served via the internet. Led the effort to create interactive objects that are efficient to build and compelling for users. I finished there with the title of Art Director/UI Designer. Accomplishments include:

Instructor - "Introduction to Macromedia Flash". Developed and taught beginning level Flash users the concepts and basics of the Flash application.

ArtSource Inc.

1998

Digital Image Technician, Animator - Contract position at Microsoft, worked in the Digital Imaging Studio (DIS). Animated promos for internal clients including MSN, Expedia and Encarta-Online.

Pop!Multimedia

1997 - 1998

Animator, Web Developer - As an Animator I worked on projects for KCTS and Real.com/SciFi Network. I animated one of the first long-playing RealFlash animations for the SciFi network, Edgar Allen Poe's "Tell Tale Heart". As Web Developer I created the first California Science Center website.

1995 - 1997

Film Processing Technician, Digital Retoucher/Scanner - Began as a film processing technician running professional photographer's film through black and white, c4 and E-6 processors. Transferred to the digital imaging department and worked as a scanner (Isomet Drum Scanner) and retoucher/compositor. Clients included The GAP, Nike and Nordstrom.

Superscenics

Carpenter - Built sets and custom interiors. Clients included the Seattle Children's Museum, Portland Ballet Company
